WHAT IS CONGENITAL ATRESIA(Microtia)?
Microtia is a congenital prominent ear or lack of components on the ear. It’s a very rare disease. Since the ear is not fully formed, it is possible to suffer from hearing loss.
WHAT ARE THE STEPS FOR APPLICATION ?
Congenital ear reconstruction is not performed immediately after birth. 5 years and beyond is the appropriate time for congenital ear reconstruction. Surgeries to treat microtia can be performed as early as 4 years of age. Depending on the surgeon’s preferred technique, one stage or multiple stages of surgery may be needed. Ear reconstruction can be based on a Medpore framework (one stage) or a cartilaginous framework (multiple stages). Further treatment to address hearing problems or the development of the middle or inner ear may be required. Patients with bilateral aural atresia receive bone conduction hearing aids within the first few months of life. In addition, speech therapy will be recommended as soon as a child begins to talk. Older children may receive a bone-anchored hearing aid (BAHA), which works by directly stimulating the inner ear through the bone.
CONGENITAL ATRESIA(MYROTIA) AFTER THE PROCEDURE ?
There may be swelling in and around the ear in the first period after microtia surgery. These swellings will go away over time. it is advisable not to lie on the ear for the first 14 days. Pillows of soft structure recommended by the doctor should be used after surgery. depending on the healing process, it may take several months for the ear to take its full shape. Since a completely reconstructed ear requires more than one surgery, surgeries should be continued until the ear takes its full shape. A child’s psychology may be adversely affected if he or she needs surgery every three months. In this process, parents should support their children and, if necessary, seek psychological support from a specialist. Preschool time is recommended in children who require more than one surgery. Otherwise, since the child will undergo surgery every three months and each surgery has a recovery procedure, it may fall behind in their lessons and social relations may also be adversely affected.
WHAT ARE THE AREAS FOR APPLICATION ?
This is applied to the ear area.
